From Duct Cleaning

Clean Ducts Are Important For Health

Duct Cleaning Advantages

Indoor air pollution is now listed by the Environmental Protection Agency ( as the fourth greatest environmental threat to Americans. When your heating and cooling system is running, airborne contaminants are being drawn into your duct system. Over a period of time, these harmful contaminants will eventually build up inside your air ducts.

Indoor contaminants may include: dust mites, tobacco smoke, household mold, chemicals, airborne allergens, bacteria, animal dander and carbon monoxide. These contaminants are then circulated thoughout your home or office and effect the health and comfort of you, your family, or your employees.

Having your air ducts cleaned, can help ellimate these problems.

1. Reduce Dusting

Source removal duct cleaning can help to reduce household dust by removing the dust where it travels most – through your air duct system.

2. Improve Indoor Air Quality

According to the EPA, indoor air is found to be up to 70 times more polluted than outdoor air. Air duct cleaning by Advanced Air Care can remove airborne contaminates such as bacteria, fungus, mold spores, pet dander & pollen which may help to alleviate allergy & asthma symptoms.

3.Save Energy & Save Money

According to the EPA, a build up of only .042 inches of dirt on a heating coil can result in a decrease of efficiency of 21%. A clean air conveyance system may help to increase efficiency and therefore may help to reduce heating and cooling costs.

4.Extended Equipment Life

9 out of 10 system failures are caused by dirt and dust. One of the functions of the fan, located inside of your air handler, is to keep the heat exchanger cool. Accumulated dirt and debris can reduce the CFM (cubic feet of air per minute) as much as 50%. This is the most common cause of cracks in heat exchangers. By having your system cleaned, you may prevent pre-mature breakdown & aging of your heating and cooling system.

Rodent Infestation

Just recently HiCaliber was called for a job involving a rodent issue.

When there is an infestation involving rodents/pests in a home IT IS VITAL TO HAVE A PROFESSIONAL INVESTIGATE!

The job required special equipment and bio hazard suits as the rodents had taken over the duct system and some had died inside.  The smell ALONE required special breathing devices.

Many home owners will have a second home that is a get away.  Meaning, the only time the property is occupied is a few weeks out of the year.

Unfortunately pests/rodents are VERY creative and motivated to get inside homes.  If there is no one living there, sometimes the situation goes unnoticed for a long time.

The situation was contained and the property is in the process of being repaired back to it’s former glory.

Our professionally trained technicians are certified in bio-recovery and are equipped to handle jobs including:

• Animal Waste and Carcass Cleanup (Birds, Bats, Rodents, Skunks, etc.)
• Contagious Disease Decontamination
• Crime/Death/Suicide Scene Decontamination
• Drug/Meth Lab Cleanup
• Human Waste Decontamination
• Industrial and Commercial Accident Decontamination
• Law Enforcement Decontamination (Holding Cells, Police Vehicles, Interrogation Rooms, etc.)
• Vehicle Cleanup

We use industry-approved protocols to safely and completely remove the bio-hazard damages, returning the premises back to pre-loss condition. We serve a wide range of clients which include insurance carriers, city and county municipalities, police departments, property managers, commercial building owners, and private residences. For more than 30 years of business we have gained extensive and unparalleled experience in the processing of bio-hazard cleaning. We are well equipped to handle the meticulous-work required to decontaminate areas following a sewage back up, crime scene, or even death.

Our job is to handle the cleanup as quickly and effectively as possible. We take our duties very seriously. Given the nature of risk involved with bio-hazard scenes, we immediately respond to the service call and work tirelessly to resolve the situation. It is imperative to hire a business you can trust and feel comfortable working with. HiCaliber is surely the company you need.

The Importance Of A Clean Dryer Vent

Why Clean The Dryer Vent

Most people do not know that clean dryer vents are actually important and beneficial to have. Not only do clean dryer vents improve efficiency of your dryer, lower energy costs, but more importantly they make you safer from fire in your home.

Your lint trap traps about 60% of the lint, the other 40% goes up and through your dryer vent and dryer vent system. The accumulation of lint in the dryer vent or dryer vent system is a real fire hazard.

Can You See The Potential Hazard:

98% of your dryer vent cannot be seen. The only part that visible is the dryer exhaust; transition hose and the roof exhaust vent or exterior wall vent on some multi-story dwellings. Most of the dryer vent is in a confined area inside your walls, floor joist, crawl space and attic.

A lot of times what you do not see, you forget about. A confined area is a problem because when a fire starts or extends in a confined area or space it may not be noticed as quickly as a fire in an open area. Many sprinkler systems and smoke alarms will not be triggered as fast as they should.

Advantages of Annual Dryer Vent Cleaning:

SAVE MONEY: Every time your dryer goes through a cycle you add about $0.70 to your power bill.

SAVE TIME: If your clothes are not drying in one cycle think of the time that is wasted in doing laundry.

PREVENT FIRE: Like discussed previously having a clean dryer vent can prevent a fire and danger.  Dozens of deaths, hundreds of injuries and property loss are also attributed to dryer vent fires.

Using a Professional Cleaner is Key:

The professional cleaning process cleans all the parts and areas of your dryer vent system from the lint trap to the roof exhaust vent. This is done by brushes, clot busters, flexirod, drill and forced air through the dryer vent.  HiCaliber also utilizes the newest technology and can actually show you with a camera how clogged your dryer vent is.

Cleaning Duct System Before Using Air Conditioner

The Temperature is rising! So What?

Now the temperature is rising, soon you will want to turn on the AC in your home.  Why not???  There are some things to consider before you crank up the air in your home!

With all the air that rushes through your air ducts, the fact that they get pretty dirty should not come as a surprise. That’s why it’s important to periodically have your air ducts professionally cleaned. An air-duct cleaning can improve the quality of the air in your home tremendously, and if you have people in your home with allergies or asthma, you may see a decrease in their symptoms.

Are there any health benefits that come from HVAC SYSTEM CLEANING?
Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems have been shown to act as a collection source for a variety of contaminants that have the potential to affect health, such as mold, fungi, bacteria, and very small particles of dust. The removal of such contaminants from the HVAC system and home should be considered as one component in an overall plan to improve indoor air quality

Duct cleaning generally refers to the cleaning of various heating and cooling system components of forced air systems, including the supply and return air ducts and registers, grilles and diffusers, heat exchangers heating and cooling coils, condensate drain pans (drip pans), fan motor and fan housing, and the air handling unit housing.

Why Maintain Ducts?

If not properly INSTALLED, maintained, and operated, these components may become contaminated with particles of dust, pollen or other debris. If moisture is present, the potential for mold is increased and spores from such growth may be released into the home’s living space. Some of these contaminants may cause allergic reactions or other symptoms if exposure occurs.

List of signs you may have a problem:

  1. Development of allergies or the flare up of existing allergies
  2. Illness among members of your household with no obvious cause
  3. Visible dust and dirt on and around your home’s air vents*
  4. Visible growth of mold on or around air vents
  5. A musty odor coming from your HVAC system

Who Can Do The Job?

You should have your heating and cooling SYSTEM CLEANED by a professional. HiCaliber will clean all components and is qualified to do so for both Residential and Commercial buildings. Failure to clean a component of a contaminated system can result in re-contamination of the entire system, thus negating any potential benefits. HiCaliber uses specialized tools to dislodge dirt and other debris in ducts, using a high-powered vacuum cleaner to rid the area of the particles.

Is There a Way to Prevent Re occurrences?

In addition, HiCaliber applies chemical biocides, designed to kill microbiological contaminants to the inside of the duct work and to other system components. HiCaliber can also apply chemical treatments to encapsulate or cover the inside surfaces of the air ducts and equipment housings to help control mold growth and prevent the release of dirt particles or fibers from occurring.

Restoring Your Property After Smoke Damage

Why You Need A Professional For Smoke Damage

The smoke released by any type of fire (forest, brush, crop, structure, tires, waste or wood burning) is a mixture of particles and chemicals produced by incomplete burning of carbon-containing materials. All smoke contains carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and particulate matter. Smoke can contain many different chemicals, including aldehydes, acid gases, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, benzene, toluene, styrene, metals and dioxins. The type and amount of particles and chemicals in smoke varies depending on what is burning, how much oxygen is available, and the burn temperature.

Picture 534

Who Does It Affect?

Exposure to high levels of smoke should be avoided. Individuals are advised to limit their physical exertion if exposure to high levels of smoke cannot be avoided. Individuals with cardiovascular or respiratory conditions (e.g., asthma), fetuses, infants, young children, and the elderly may be more vulnerable to the health effects of smoke exposure.

What Can Happen If Exposed To Smoke?

Inhaling smoke for a short time can cause immediate (acute) effects. Smoke is irritating to the eyes, nose, and throat, and its odor may be nauseating. Studies have shown that some people exposed to heavy smoke have temporary changes in lung function, which makes breathing more difficult. Two of the major agents in smoke that can cause health effects are carbon monoxide gas and very small particles. These particles are two and one half microns or less in size and individual particles are too small to be seen with the naked eye.

High Quality Professionalism

Thank you so much for the thoroughness of your report. You did an excellent job on the home inspection you performed. I will be recommending this service you provide whenever I can. It’s nice to deal with an owner owned business that provides a personal service. I doubt that I would have received as complete as a report from another impersonable inspection company. The web site to your actual report, just everything is such high quality professionalism. I especially liked the fact, that you explained to me verbally and in writing the minor problems the property has but, are not deal killers, and how the repairs should be done. This prevented panic on my part, and with the pictures provided, reassured me you visually inspected the whole house. The biggest problem when buying a house is the uncertainty involved in the whole process. You have successfully removed the uncertainties in my purchase. Kudos to you and the employees at HiCaliber, you were fantastic to work with. I will for sure being doing business with you in the future.”

What is an allergic reaction?

A hypersensitive response, or allergic reaction, is the result of the interaction among the allergen itself, mast cells and immunoglobulin E (IgE). The result is a prompt release of inflammatory chemicals that can cause swelling of tissues, itching, engorgement of blood vessels, increased secretions and bronchospasm.

Where does it occur?

If the allergen is in the air, the allergic reaction will occur in the eyes, nose and/or lungs. If the allergen is ingested, the allergic reaction may primarily occur in the mouth, stomach, and intestines

Who does it affect?

Allergic disorders affect an estimated 1 in 5 adults and children (40 to 50 million people) and are the sixth leading cause of chronic illness in the United States, according to the Allergy Report from the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAI)

What can help?

During that peak season, those who suffer from allergy symptoms should close the windows and use the air conditioner. It’s also a good idea to take allergy medication a week before the season starts or on a regular basis, since it typically takes a couple days for it start working.

When does it happen?

Pollination typically begins in late February. Since the cold weather lasted well into April, spring is starting nearly two months late. A late spring start results in a shorter allergy season, but doctors warn pollen could hit in one heavy, intense dose this year.  Some doctors predict it could be one of the worst on record.

HiCaliber Can HELP!

It is always a good idea to have your air conditioning serviced and your vents cleaned to remove all pollutants.  This can help with allergies.  Staying inside won’t keep you 100% protected if allergens are being released into your home.

Advantages of Duct Cleaning

Duct cleaning generally refers to the cleaning of various heating and cooling system components of forced air systems, including the supply and return air ducts and registers, grilles and diffusers, heat exchangers heating and cooling coils, condensate drain pans (drip pans), fan motor and fan housing, and the air handling unit housing.

You should consider having the air ducts in your home cleaned if:

checkmarkThere is substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface (e.g., sheet metal) ducts or on other components of your heating and cooling system. There are several important points to understand concerning mold detection in heating and cooling systems:

  • Many sections of your heating and cooling system may not be accessible for a visible inspection, so ask the service provider to show you any mold they say exists.
  • You should be aware that although a substance may look like mold, a positive determination of whether it is mold or not can be made only by an expert and may require laboratory analysis for final confirmation. For about $50, some microbiology laboratories can tell you whether a sample sent to them on a clear strip of sticky household tape is mold or simply a substance that resembles it.
  • If you have insulated air ducts and the insulation gets wet or moldy it cannot be effectively cleaned and should be removed and replaced.
  • If the conditions causing the mold growth in the first place are not corrected, mold growth will recur.
Ducts are infested with vermin, e.g. (rodents or insects); or
Ducts are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.

Research suggests that cleaning heating and cooling system components (e.g., cooling coils, fans and heat exchangers) may improve the efficiency of your system, resulting in a longer operating life, as well as some energy and maintenance cost savings.
