Heart Of The Home

six-great-kitchen-makeovers

Kitchen is the Heart of the home

The kitchen is the most important room in your home because it is the center of your family’s day-to-day living. Your day most likely begins in your kitchen with breakfast to start your day. You deserve to begin every day in a tranquil environment. You prepare meals for your family in your kitchen and probably even eat in your kitchen. Your family and guests often gather in the kitchen to socialize, eat, and cook together. Your kitchen is a bonding area that not only ties your home together, it ties your loved ones together.

Kitchen-Cabinet-Colors-kitchen-cabinet-stain-colors-picture

Why is the KITCHEN the most important to have up to date?

Renovating your kitchen will add ease to your lifestyle and value to your home.  Studies show that an out of date kitchen can break a sale if the house is on the market.  Buyers look at the kitchen first.  Ultimately if you want your house worth more ~ start with the kitchen!

Tour-the-Top-10-Amazing-Kitchens-15

Here are the most important things to consider for remodeling a kitchen:

1. Use quality materials.
Top-quality drawer slides and hinges mean cabinet doors will stay closed and drawers won’t stick. Stay away from drawers that are stapled together or made of particleboard. For cabinet interiors, wood veneer is more durable than melamine, laminate, MDF or particleboard.

2. Determine cabinet heights.
If you have eight-foot ceilings, choose cabinetry that goes to the ceiling. They offer more storage, enabling you to use extra wall space for artwork or open shelves. If your ceilings are higher than eight feet, leave 15 to 18 inches above the cabinets.

3. Decide whether to paint or stain.
Though stained-wood cabinetry is forgiving, most finishes date quickly and aren’t easily altered. Brush-painted cabinets can lend a unique personality.

Kitchen

4. Select an elegant countertop.
White Carrara marble (honed or acid washed and sealed) and stained wood add elegance and warmth. We also like honed Kirkstone slate, soapstone and Wiarton limestone, and plastic laminate with a wood edge for a sophisticated look.

5. Install an island that works.
Beware of placing a bulky cube in the middle of the room. We like islands that have an open, airy look. Ideally, an island should be unencumbered by appliances, but if you want it to house a dishwasher-sink combo or a cooktop, try to maintain the light look of a leggy harvest table.

6. Don’t overdo the details.
Design accents such as pediments over stoves and plaster mouldings on cabinet fronts can represent decorative excess. Remember that the style of the kitchen should match the rest of your home.

DIY With Baking Soda

20 Uses for Baking Soda

Personal Care

teeth

1. Freshen your breath

Mix 1 tsp of baking soda in a glass of water. Swish, spit, and rinse. Easy mouth wash that neutralizes odors.

2. Polish your teeth

Many people will use baking soda as a natural toothpaste. There is some concern, however, that baking soda can be too abrasive for everyday use (although there are plenty of people who swear by it), but even using it from time to time to help polish and whiten teeth is simple and effective. I’ll add a little baking soda to my normal homemade toothpaste every few weeks when I want a little boost.

face

3. Gently exfoliate

Here’s a simple way to gently get rid of dead skin: Mix 3 parts of baking soda to 1 part water. Rub gently in a circular motion and then rinse clean.

4. Relieve Skin Irritation

Add a cup of baking soda to bathwater to soften your skin and relieve skin irritations.

5.  Relieve insect bites

Make a simple paste of water and baking soda and apply as a salve onto affected skin.

6.  Keep your brushes and combs clean

Baking soda is great to help naturally remove oils, build up, and residue on your combs and brushes. Simply soak in a solution of water and baking soda (about 1 tsp of baking soda to a cup of water). Rinse and dry thoroughly.

7. Relieve Diaper Rash

Put two tablespoons of baking soda in your baby’s bathwater to help relieve diaper rash.

feet

8. Pamper your feet

Soaking your feet in a baking soda solution will help soothe and soften tired feet. Mix 3 tablespoons of baking soda into a small tub of warm water and soak – Epsom salt helps too.

11. Cut grease naturally

Add a heaping scoop of baking soda to your normal dish soap and let soak for a while. Baking soda helps remove grease.

12. Simple Air Freshener

Most air fresheners on the market are full of toxic chemicals that you shouldn’t breathe. Luckily, you can make this air freshener using baking soda and a few drops of your favorite essential oils

Adding baking soda to your laundry helps soften the water making clothes cleaner, fresher, and softer! Add 1/2 cup of baking soda to your laundry to make your detergent go further.

17. Deodorize The Refrigerator

Place an open box in the back of your refrigerator to help neutralize odors. Just be sure to change the box every couple of months.

Carpet Cleaning On A Regular Basis

15-off-cleaning

The Importance of carpet cleaning on a regular basis

In case you own a home or a business with carpet, then you know that your carpets can get dirty and require carpet cleaning to keep them looking their best. However, apart from just being clean there are plenty of other factors at to why you need to have a regular carpet cleaning.

carpet cleaning BETTER

1. dirty carpet not only looks horrible but could also harbor lots of bacteria and germs. Those germs and bacteria can cause individuals in the house to become sick more often and will influence quality of air as well. Specific illnesses such as asthma can be activated and worsened by the germs and bacteria in dirty carpet. Therefore, if you desire to be healthier and have better indoor air quality it is wise to have your carpet cleaned on a regular basis!

carpet_flooring

2. Odor is another common problem that could be easily traced back to dirty carpet. The odor is once again brought on by bacteria and also dirt as well as other particles held in the fibers. Especially if you are a pet owner. The pollen coming from their bodies and their fur could work its way to the carpet which the basic vacuuming can’t remove it all. This pet dander and fur build up can cause an odor as time passes.

Carpet-cleaning

As you can see just vacuuming your dirty carpets regularly will suffice. In order to have truly clean, odor free, and clean air you need to have consistent carpet cleaning service! The number of times you will get them cleaned is perfectly up to you however each 3-6 months is a good rule of thumb.

Clean Ducts Are Important For Health

Duct Cleaning Advantages

Indoor air pollution is now listed by the Environmental Protection Agency (www.epa.gov) as the fourth greatest environmental threat to Americans. When your heating and cooling system is running, airborne contaminants are being drawn into your duct system. Over a period of time, these harmful contaminants will eventually build up inside your air ducts.

untitled

Indoor contaminants may include: dust mites, tobacco smoke, household mold, chemicals, airborne allergens, bacteria, animal dander and carbon monoxide. These contaminants are then circulated thoughout your home or office and effect the health and comfort of you, your family, or your employees.

clean

Having your air ducts cleaned, can help ellimate these problems.

1. Reduce Dusting

Source removal duct cleaning can help to reduce household dust by removing the dust where it travels most – through your air duct system.

2. Improve Indoor Air Quality

According to the EPA, indoor air is found to be up to 70 times more polluted than outdoor air. Air duct cleaning by Advanced Air Care can remove airborne contaminates such as bacteria, fungus, mold spores, pet dander & pollen which may help to alleviate allergy & asthma symptoms.

3.Save Energy & Save Money

According to the EPA, a build up of only .042 inches of dirt on a heating coil can result in a decrease of efficiency of 21%. A clean air conveyance system may help to increase efficiency and therefore may help to reduce heating and cooling costs.

4.Extended Equipment Life

9 out of 10 system failures are caused by dirt and dust. One of the functions of the fan, located inside of your air handler, is to keep the heat exchanger cool. Accumulated dirt and debris can reduce the CFM (cubic feet of air per minute) as much as 50%. This is the most common cause of cracks in heat exchangers. By having your system cleaned, you may prevent pre-mature breakdown & aging of your heating and cooling system.

Dry Wall Installation

About the Process of Installing Drywall

Drywall installation requires the use of specialized tools and materials in order to achieve a seamless finish. Careful drywall installation involves taking precise measurements and making accurate cuts while taking care not to damage the flooring or ceilings. The entire process takes several days as each layer of mud between pieces of drywall needs to dry before the next layer can be added to create a smooth finish.

IMG_7972

Why Drywall Installation Is Not a DIY Project

From cutting the drywall to properly hanging it from the stud framing to taping, applying mud and painting it, one misstep can make the whole project look like a disaster. Instead of trying to do it yourself and then making a mistake that ruins the materials and wastes your time, it is more cost effective to hire a professional drywall installer to get the job done right the first time.

IMG_7987

Benefits of Professional Drywall Installation

•Better looking final result.
•You can spend your time working or doing activities you enjoy instead of struggling trying to figure out how to drywall the right way.
•Leaving the job to the professionals means you do not have to waste your money on tools and supplies that you’ll only use once. You won’t have to worry about buying too much or too little supplies or making extra trips to the home improvement store.
•You won’t have to worry about breathing in fumes or cleaning up a big mess, as the professional installation team does a complete job clean-up for you.
